Your support is urgently needed to put pressure on Wilfrid Laurier University to stop their agenda of eliminating good jobs and replacing them with precarious, low-paid ones. We need people to attend an information picket and rally this Friday morning, from 7am - 10am, at WLU.
Our Labour Council has been talking to you about this issue for over six months now. Several of us attended a rally on campus in early December, then I had an article published in the Community Edition in January explaining the issues at stake. In March, we put out a call to sign an online petition to send letters to WLU President Max Blouw, and almost 1,500 of you did so!
Now we need you again. The university has taken the next step of filing a "No Board" report which means there could be a strike or lockout at 12:01am Sunday. They intend to impose working conditions that would replace the Collective Agreement at that time which would permit the university to contract out custodial work currently done by members of CUPE 926 to people paid far less, without pensions or benefits.
We can't let that happen! Please come to an information picket and rally at WLU Friday morning.
We will meet at 202 Regina St N and then spread out to picket locations across the campus.
