KidSport - Every Child Should Have Access to Sports & Recreation

Labour Council delegates heard a passionate plea from the Chair of the Kitchener-Waterloo Chapter of KidSport at our October membership meeting.

John Cooper, a recently-retired member of CUPE Local 791, has worked to increase access to sports and recreation for his entire career.  Now that he has left full-time employment, he works to promote KidSport, a charity which helps families pay for their children to participate in organized sports and recreation programs.

He pointed out that children from low-income families are far less likely to participate in organized sports due to the cost.  KidSport grants support over 60,000 children and youth each year to participate.

Thank you to the Labour Council for your thoughtful support in posting this information about KidSport KW. To date we have received donations from OSSTF Local 34 and the English Catholic Teachers Association. Your support is much appreciated by the children who have benefited from your generosity. Since August, we have provided grants to 26 children to participate in dance and sport. Every dollar raised in KW stays in KW.

Individuals can donate now during our Give the Gift of Sport campaign.

    In solidarity!
