The Waterloo Regional Labour Council would like to invite you and other decision makers from your local to a Presidents Meeting on Tuesday, June 7 from 7:00 - 8:30pm. The meeting will take place at the office of the Elementary Teacher Federation of Ontario - Waterloo Region at 610 Wabanaki Drive in Kitchener.
You may be aware that Labour Council delegates approved a large deficit budget for this year. The Executive Board has aspirations to continue promoting positive labour messages throughout our community. Additionally, we are proud of the progressive activism we have undertaken over the last several years and hope to continue fighting for improved working conditions, equity for all workers, and promoting social justice initiatives throughout Waterloo Region. In order for this to continue, we must look critically at how we fund our work. The main intent of this meeting is to update and seek input from our affiliates about potential changes to our local labour council dues structure.
In addition, the Ontario Federation of Labour and WRLC Executive will present about the Make It Fair Member-to-Member campaign currently taking place throughout the province. For the first time in over 20 years, the Ontario government is seeking input on changes to the Ontario Labour Relations Act and the Employment Standards Act through the Changing Workplaces Review. This is a once in a generation opportunity to make much needed changes that would allow workers the meaningful right to join and keep a union, have access to paid sick days, not be at risk of losing their job if a contract is flipped and ensure that all workers are protected by the law.
It is extremely important that all affiliates of the labour council are represented at this meeting. Please RSVP on our website (http://bit.ly/1NrR6aG) with the number of people from your local who will be in attendance at the meeting. Please contact WRLC 2nd Vice President Jeff Pelich (email@example.com) if you have any questions or concerns.
